was born and raised in Kekaha on the west side of Kaua‘i, where with no formal training he developed his special gift as a versatile and multi-talented artist mastering a variety of mediums including painting, drawing with pencil, pen and ink, pastels and charcoals, and air brushing.  He recently completed his  MFA at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa with a focus on sculpture.

Kupihea is deeply devoted to the traditions of the Hawaiian culture.  Fascinated and motivated by the ancestral customs and ancient practices of Hawai‘i - he applies his acquired knowledge, skills and experiences to his work as an artist and as a cultural practitioner.

Commissioned pieces include a portrait of Kamehameha I for the King Kamehameha Celebration on Kaua‘i and a sixty foot mural depicting the four major Hawaiian gods for the Kekaha Neighborhood Center on Kaua‘i.  Many of his original art pieces are now part of private collections throughout Hawai‘i.
